Our Story
What began as a passion project has evolved into something more.
We’re proud of where we’ve been and even more excited for what’s ahead.
Dave came into our lives during a season of profound loss.
We had just lost one of her dearest friends, David Bond. Shortly afterward, we experienced another heartbreaking loss when their beloved therapy dog, Vegas, crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
Then came Linus.
Linus, a Foxhound mix, was available for adoption through a partnership between the Ronnie Stanley Foundation (RSF) and Renee's Rescue. Their mission is simple but powerful: to match people in need with dogs in need. Their work supports everyone from children with autism to veterans living with PTSD.
While we didn't fit the Foundation's traditional placement model, we knew we could find a meaningful way to make a difference with this special dog. We were approved to adopt him, and our journey together began.
The first step was a little rebranding.
Linus became David's Magical Bond, lovingly nicknamed Dave, in honor of our dear friend David Bond and his beloved dog, Magic. Hearing David's name every day became a source of comfort. And with a puppy in the house, that meant hearing it a hundred times a day.
Dave quickly proved to be an extraordinary dog. His gentle spirit, unwavering kindness, and natural ability to connect with people made him an exceptional therapy dog and an inspiration to everyone he met.
Then loss found us once again.
My best gal, my trusty sidekick and always a guiding light, Deb, passed away unexpectedly. The grief was overwhelming. But just as Dave had brought light into one of life's darkest chapters, he did it again.
One day, while driving with Dave, grief quietly took a back seat, and a new purpose took the wheel.
What if we could honor David and Deb by helping others? What if the kindness they showed every day could continue through the lives of dogs and the families who love them?
That moment became the beginning of The Helpful Hound Fund.
Dave and Deb shared so many of the same qualities. They never spoke ill of others. They treated every person and every animal with compassion. They were generous with their time, their hearts, and their willingness to help whenever someone was in need.
Their legacy lives on through this organization.
Today, every dog we help, every family we support, and every tail wag is a tribute to the extraordinary people who inspired us. The Helpful Hound Fund exists to celebrate the healing power of dogs, to keep loving companions in the homes that need them most, and to ensure that kindness continues to ripple through our communities—one hound, one family, and one act of compassion at a time.
